151) Poo

There's no surprises here, when you read the name and see the box you know exactly what your getting into. Each player takes the roll of a monkey who flings poo at other players. On your turn you play a card and draw back up to five cards. Cards allow you to fling poo at other players, clean poo off of yourself, or provide special actions or abilities. Additionally, there are defensive cards that can prevent players from throwing poo and even toss it back at them. Once a player has accumulated 15 poo they are out. Last person standing wins.

Thats exactly how I felt

Help for everyone
Some cards

The only redeeming value to this game is using m&m's for the poo counters. Each time you clean yourself you get a little snack and it never gets old to make fun of people for eating poo. Apart from this the game isn't that enjoyable to me. The amount of random luck is monumental. Players for the most part choose who they want to attack so if everyone gangs up on you you'll probably lose. Also, some players will draw the cards they need and others wont. Because of this the game doesn't fall that high on my list of games I enjoy.

124) Chaos & Alchemy

A fairly straight forward and quick card game. The goal of the game is to get cards out in front of you totaling 10 points. On a players turn they get actions equal to 1 + the number of successful dice rolls they have. Actions are used to draw or play cards and failed dice require a player to discard cards. Each card has a special ability that influences the game in different ways.

Starting set-up is easy enough
My starting hand
Our four player game
Some cards I managed to play

Unfortunately this game failed on multiple levels. My over arching dislike is the amount of luck involved in this game although more specifically: In our game the player going last had most of his cards taken by other players leaving them at a huge disadvantage before even getting a turn in the game. On top of that, the player to the right of the last player influenced the dice on multiple turns, which meant that the following player had to roll 6's in order to get additional actions. This essentially left the last player having no good cards to play and no actions to recover from the deficit. This was all decided before this player had any ability to do anything in the game. That by itself is enough to discourage future plays.

Additionally, there is the issue of complete random luck of what you draw on your turn. Everyone is drawing from a shared pile of cards. Some cards will be better then others. The player that wins will often be the one who randomly draws the better cards.

If you can't tell already, I'm not a big fan of this game and wouldn't recommend this one.

120) Roll For It

I was hoping for more from this game. Initially it looked like it could be interesting, but it turned out to be yahtzee with artistic cards. On your turn you roll your remaining dice (or all your dice) and then assign numbers to the available cards. Then the next person takes a turn. When one player has all the dice required by a card that player claims that card.

This is the poster child for games I don't enjoy. It is essentially roll dice and see if I win. No thanks.

105) Dread Pirate

This game probably wins worst game of the year by a long shot. It's essentially a roll and move game where occasionally you get to roll to see who wins the game. You can battle other players, which is just a dice roll to see how much treasure the higher roll gets to plunder. You visit ports to trade or plunder, which again is determined by a dice roll. Additionally, you occasionally draw cards, some are good, others are bad and its completely random. This game turned into a bit of a co-op to make it end as quickly as possible because no one was enjoying this game.

Sweet cloth board
Sweet pieces
Someone's a pirate
This game is 100% chance (aka 100% horrible). It takes players 2-4 turns to travel across the board, so  many turns are roll, move a few spaces, and done. Once you have an encounter you roll dice and either win or lose. Then repeat. The only redeeming part of this game is that the pieces are really neat. The ships (despite 3 being the same color and thus impossible to tell apart) are really neat. The cloth board is also a good idea and works really well. And the doubloons are made to feel like real treasure. But, the pieces don't make up for the incredibly boring game play and complete randomness of determining the winner and thus I will never play this game again.

104) Boss Monster

In this game you're building traps and monsters from video games. You then flip hero cards (also heros from video games) and certain heros try and get through your dungeon. Of course if they make it through your dungeon they're going to do damage to you, but if you kill the hero then you get that hero's points.

Getting there...sorta
4-player game

I enjoyed playing this game and I'm sure that would be magnified greatly if I knew more about old video games. Despite my lack of knowledge I still recognized some of the cards and that in itself was enjoyable. I really like a lot of the mechanics of building up your board and attracting heros to it that you try and kill. My main dislike of this game is the complete randomness of the card drawing. Everyone is drawing from a central deck and some players are going to get good cards and other players aren't. When a huge part of the game is based purely on the luck of what you draw then I'm not a huge fan. I enjoyed a great deal about this game, but I don't feel the need to play again.

100) Incan Gold

This is a quick and easy press your luck game. Each turn you flip up a card. That card can either be a good (blue) card that awards gold to each player still in that round or a bad (red) card. If the round doesn't end players have the choice to stay to see another card (and risk losing all their gold) or bank their gold and wait for next round. Once there are two of the same red card flipped up the round ends immediately and players who haven't banked their gold lose everything from that round.

Box may contain gold.
Trouble is brewing
Storing my gold in my tent

This is a fun game of calculating odds and taking risks with some fun twists. It's fast and easy to learn and doesn't take much thinking. It's perfect as a filler game. As I tend to enjoy games with more depth, this one won't be in my top favorites, but its certainly worth a try if you haven't played it before.

98) Cockroach Poker

Another light, quick, fun game. In this game you pass a card face down to another player and claim its a certain insect. The player has two choices, they can call you on it saying either it is or is not what you claim it to be OR they can look at the card and then pass it to another player and claim its an insect of their choice. I had fun passing my cards and claiming every time that it was a stink bug, it really makes people start to wonder what's going on. Additionally when the odds were in my favor it was fun to have a player pick a card randomly out of my hand and make them question whether or not I actually was able to say what it was without looking.

Cute Art
6-player game
Oops, the goal is to not get these

This is a fun game to play although in the end its mostly a game of chance. I don't like that based on the odds you should (almost) always look at the card and pass it on as you have a 66% chance of not losing if you look vs. 50% chance if you challenge. I also don't like that each round has a loser who supposedly doesn't play again until only one player is left. We just played a few rounds without any consequences for losing, but I generally don't enjoy the player elimination mechanic.

71) Machikoro

In this game you're collecting cards, which give you money to buy more cards. Eventually you have enough money to start buying the cards that allow you to win. All this is fine and good until you add in the dice. At the beginning of your turn you roll dice and cards of the corresponding number are activated, sometimes for one person, sometimes for everyone. My round often consisted of collecting money on other players turns, rolling the dice and being forced to give my money away and passing the turn. I suppose its my fault for buying the wrong cards...

This is a quick game thats easy to learn. This game isn't for me because I don't enjoy the mechanics and generally shy away from dice driven games that often have a lot of luck involved, but, that said, if this type of game sounds interesting to you then I wouldn't write it off based on my specific game preferences.

25) Unexploded Cow

This is a fun little game that really sells itself with its flavor - you can't go wrong with exploding mad cows. I'm really glad I got to play this, but it really didn't leave me wanting to play again. There is an element of gambling, which allows for some strategy, but largely what you do is based on the luck of the draw.

flavor = fun

21) Munchkin

I have mixed thoughts on this game, but first the good. Games where over time you're accumulating gear and weapons and abilities are always fun and this is no exception. On top of that the flavor for all the stuff you acquire is crazy ridiculous and quite funny. An argument could be made to buy this game on flavor alone.

I'm already cheating on the first turn

pack it up until next year
Unfortunately this game is getting a thumbs down from me for two really big reasons. 1) There seemed to be so much down time between the end of my turn and the start of my next turn. Yes, you are able to interact with other players on their turn, but I often found I was waiting with very little to do for longer than was enjoyable for it to be my turn again. This is probably largely due to players receiving a lot of information (cards) near the end of their turn that they need to sort through before the next players turn. and 2) The winner of the game is based largely on luck as opposed to how well you've played over the entire game. Eventually we all reached 8-9 points and it turned into a game of blocking each other from winning. Once we all ran out of block cards the next player was able to win.

14) Trans Europa

This is a quick, easy, light game that everyone seems to enjoy. It's a great filler if you only have 15 minutes to play. There is some strategic thinking, but I think a lot of the strategy comes in figuring out where people are going and capitalizing on having others build routes towards the cities you need to complete.

2) Farkel

3 photo-shy dice not pictured

I guess this game is good for passing time, but again not my favorite. After a slow start where I wasn't able to get the required amount of points to begin scoring for a few rounds I adopted a fairly aggressive "strategy". The general rules of the game are that you roll dice, pull out dice that you plan to score, and then choose to either risk your current points and re-roll the unscored dice in hopes of getting more points or decide to bank your current score and let the next person go. I decided that if my point total was less then 700-800ish I would always re-roll, which often led to me scoring no points and very rarely led to high point totals. In short I was creamed.

I suppose the biggest surprise to me was how the game restricted the player interaction to only talking about the game. I suppose this is true for most games and may be considered a sign of a good game, but the lack of true strategy and limited decision making in this game made it more surprising that it was able to suck everyone in so completely.
